Q: How old do you have to be to start physie?
A: Usually 3 years, as long as your daughter can be happily separated from her mum for half an hour.
Q: When can I start?
A: We begin teaching a new syllabus in February but new members are welcome any time throughout the physie year.
Q: How much do lessons cost?
A: Between $4 and $6 per lesson, depending on the age group. There is also an annual registration fee of $60 per member ($20 for 3-4 year olds). Discounts apply to second and subsequent family members.
Q: Do I need to pay upfront?
A: No. Come along and have a trial lesson and find out more about physie. The annual club registration and insurance fee is not due until the end of February. Term fees are payable by the third week of each term. Coffs Coast Physie is possibly the lowest cost dance class around especially considering there are no ballet shoes or expensive costumes to buy.
Q: What do you actually do in class?
A: Learn dances and exercise routines, get fit and have fun!
Q: What do you wear to class?
A: You can wear a leotard or club singlet and tights – comfy but not baggy clothing. For a full list of approprite class wear see our club uniform page.
Q: How many times a week do you go to class?
A: Once a week for Terms 1 and 2 and twice a week for Terms 3 and 4.
Q: How many students are in a class?
A: This can vary from 1 to 20, depending on the class.
Q: Do you have to compete?
A: No, the competitions are completely optional. We do encourage all girls and ladies to participate in competitions but won't place any pressure on those who choose not to.
Q: What sort of competitions are there?
A: Two kinds: individual and teams of 8 girls or ladies.
Q: What do you wear for competitions?
A: Leotards and, for adults, stockings or fishnet tights – no dance shoes required.
Q: What about tan, hair and makeup?
A: Fake tan is banned for under 15's and optional above 15 years. There are strict makeup rules for under 15's, but not for adults. Hair is simple, stylish and feminine.
Q: Why should I/my daughter do physie?
A: Physie is a great way to keep fit! The variety offered in lessons keeps the girls interested and enthusiastic all year long - combining ballet, jazz and exercise routines all in one! Physie is fantastic for posture and grace - a physie girl will stand tall with confidence! Most of all, physie classes are fun!
